Undergraduate training
The Surgery 1 posting is well designed and structured for MBBS students. The students begin by learning the foundational principles of General Surgery and Head & Neck surgery as relevant to the curriculum. The posting includes clinical presentations, seminars, operative surgery and assessments. The unit is the first to apply E-learning methods in learning and assessment.
Surgical clerkship is a special posting in which the students have a unique experience of following up surgical patients which gives them a more comprehensive understanding of the subject. They are also introduced to the management of patients in the emergency department. A hands-on experience of basic surgical techniques gives them an appreciation of the art of surgery and is often the stepping stone to a commitment to the specialty.
Postgraduate training

In the first year, the students hone their basic skillls and clerical responsibilities which blend into a full fledged responsibility of all the clinical affairs of the unit by the end of the final posting. The training avenues include grand rounds, journal club, paper reading, weekly reviews, mortality audits, head & neck club and clinical meetings.
