The Department of General and Head & Neck Surgery (Surgery Unit 1) has existed since September 2003 in keeping with the decision to move towards a specialty oriented Department of General Surgery. The department has grown in various aspects since then. Our faculty have been trained in the specialized aspects of head and neck cancer and are involved in a multidisciplinary team effort.

We are also a general surgical unit handling all ranges of general surgical emergencies and elective surgeries. The training of surgical registrars in basic surgical principles has been the focus of our attention and hasn’t been lost in the quest for a specialty oriented department.
