Undergraduate Course
We participate in all the teaching curriculum of the undergraduate (medical/ nursing/ physiotherapy) courses. We are actively involved in integrated lectures for the preclinical students. During the clinical postings the students are exposed and taught to work up cases: there by learning the art of history taking, examination,giving differential diagnoses & appropriate management.
They are taught basic surgical skills and get hands-on experience in working up cases in the wards during the clerkship posting.
All throughout, they are exposed to problem based learning, assessments, objective structured clinical examinations (OSCE)& end of posting examinations to get them ready for the final MBBS examination.
During Internship they learn to manage the ward – with guidance from the residents and consultants. They get opportunities to assist in operations and to perform minor elective and emergency procedures under supervision.
Postgraduate Course
The postgraduate (MS) trainees are rotated through the unit as per the schedule drawn by the Department of Surgery, according to the University guidelines. During their posting they are exposed to different aspect of surgical training activities according to their level and needs.
The final year trainee is given ample scope to manage all emergencies and plan elective operation lists. They perform procedures independently and with assistance from the consultants - including laparoscopic procedures.
During their postings they are involved in clinical presentations, seminars, morbidity & mortality audits and journal reading.
Consultants
The consultants of the unit are actively involved in all the teaching programs of the medical college and also participate in the Annual Postgraduate CME of the Department of Surgery. They are encouraged to attend different courses like Good Clinical Practice/ Research Ethics/ Biostatistics, to participate in Conferences/ Workshops to enhance their knowledge and keep up to date in the field of Medical Education and Health Care.
